Hotels can change their policy so please check with your chosen hotel to ensure it's still exclusively for adults - and if it isn't please let us know and we'll remove it. If you know of a hotel that should be added please contact us. For inclusion in the list, hotels must at least have a 16+ rule. We hope you find a calm and relaxed place to stay.

Why was this site started?
Google for adults only hotels in UK and most of the results aren't adults only hotels in UK. Many travel websites have an adults-only hotels filter, but the results include hotels where the spa is adults only but the hotel isn't, or the hotel regards an adult as anyone over six, or hotel guests must be grown-ups but the hotel hosts weddings that children can attend, or the hotel plain and simple isn't. And we've found that some hotels that are adults only don't say so in a search-friendly way, so they don't appear in search results. It's not easy to get a list of adults only hotels. Hence this website which lists UK hotels and B&Bs that are genuinely adults only.
When was this site started?
This register of hotels, guest houses and B&Bs in the UK that only accept adult guests was started in May 2019.
Which hotels can be added to this site?
Any hotel or B&B in the UK can be added to this register free simply by getting in touch with us. The key criterion is that the establishment does not allow people under 16 on the premises. So the hotel, restaurant, bar, pool, conference venue, function rooms, self-catering cottages or any other places on site must all be exclusively for grown-ups. And the establishment must be no children, adult exclusively all year round: if your hotel is child-free except in the school holidays it will not be listed.
Who is this website for?
The hotels and B&Bs listed here are for people who are looking for somewhere to stay that does not allow children on the premises. These hotels are exclusively for adults. They will suit people who like their hotels to be quiet and peaceful.
What is the age limit of the hotels listed?
The hotels, guest houses and B&Bs in this register have at least a 16+ rule, many 18+ or 21+.
What about hotel chains that are adults only?
There are chains of hotels that offer exclusively adult accommodation, such as Warner Leisure. However, great though they are, they cater for a particular segment of the grown-up guest only hotel market.
What sort of places do you list?
We list places from rather grand and posh hotels, through five star and four star boutique B&Bs all the way to budget - but very nice - hotels and B&Bs in traditional seaside resorts that simply like their guests to be responsible, grown-up persons. So whether it's a luxury 5 star boutique hotel or a small, two bedroom Bed and Breakfast you're looking for we trust that all tastes and budgets will find a suitable grown-ups only retreat listed on this site.
Where are the hotels you list?
The hotels and guest houses are all located in the UK. There are many adults-only hotels in Cornwall, Devon and Dorset. There are several in the Lake District as Cumbria is also popular with tourists. For that quiet weekend getaway, we've found adults only hotels in Brighton, Birmingham, Bournemouth, Burnham-on-Sea, Bowness, Blackpool and Bodelwyddan, though none in Bognor. But we have also found adults only hotels in Falmouth, Newquay, Mevagissey, Paington, Torquay, Lynton, Bampton, Burnham-on-Sea, Wimborne, Weymouth, Swanage, Poole, Hayling Island, Portsmouth, Shanklin, Yarmouth, Bembridge, Gatwick, Littlehampton, Seaford, Margate, Farnham, Horley, Windsor, Hungerford, Calne, Oxford, Gloucester, Bourton-on-the-Water, Hereford, Malvern, Studley, Henlow, Stansted, Southend, Lowestoft, Great Yarmouth, Ashby de la Zouch, Tamworth, Church Stretton, Nantwich, Matlock, Ollerton, Holbeck, Skegness, Spilsby, Bridlington, Scarborough, Harrogate, Windermere, Ambleside, Durham, Alnwick, Llandudno, Inverness and Portstewart.
Aren't hotels child-free anyway in term time?
No. There could be pre-school age children. And some parents of school-age children have no qualms about taking their children out of school to take advantage of the lower price outside the peak holiday season. Clearly the fines for doing this need to be raised. Visiting an ordinary hotel during school holidays means there will probably be kids running around. However, anyone who has been to a seaside hotel is September, after the schools have gone back, will know that's the time people with pre-school age kids go on holiday. So it can be very noisy, which is the last thing you want at breakfast, particularly if you're feeling a bit delicate. So while an exclusively grown-ups hotel is particularly useful during the Easter holidays, Christmas holidays, Whitsun half term holiday and of course summer holidays, even outside these holiday times normal hotels cannot be guaranteed to be child-free, so one of the hotels or B&Bs that we list could be the ideal serene and harmonious destination.
How many child-free hotels and B&Bs are there in UK?
It's difficult to estimate how many no-children hotels and couples only hotels and guest houses there are in the UK. Googling for adults only hotels and guest houses, perhaps by county or by town, yields few useful results: mostly you get pages from hotel booking sites that have the words adults only somewhere on them, and they may even show a hotel as being adults-only but when you visit the hotel's website as often as not the hotel isn't adults-only at all. Travel website filters are not good at listing hotels that are genuinely grown-ups only. So winkling out genuinely grown-ups only accommodation takes time. And having so far found around seventy hotels and B&Bs that are grown-up exclusive, it gets progressively harder to find more. Whether this is because there really aren't many more, or that hotels' sites just don't have the relevant keywords or have those keywords prominently enough for them to be found is a moot point.
What do hotels mean when they classify themselves as adults only?
We've found hotels that proclaim themselves as grown-ups exclusively but their restaurant is open to the public and isn't grown-ups only. Hotel review websites sometimes say a hotel is grown-ups only when it isn't. Some hotels say on their front page they are grown-ups only but on reading the small print you discover this actually means they accept children over six. And it's quite common for hotels to mean over 12 when defining grown-up. Only hotels with a more grown up definition should be included in a list of UK hotels that ban children. That's why we've checked that all the places we list have at least a 16+ rule.
Where are most grown-ups only hotels located?
Most grown-ups only hotels are located in the most popular holiday destinations in the UK: we've found that Cornwall and the Lake District have the highest numbers of adults exclusive hotels.
Will grown-ups only hotels become easier to find?
It is quite possible that this site itself will help the indexing of UK hotels for grown-ups: the fact of a link from a site that's all about grown-up only hotels may itself help hotels' search results for adults-only or adults-exclusive keywords. Ideally, adult-only hotels will become easier to find and so more people will begin to choose them, and this might prompt other hotels, seeing the demand, to convert to grown-ups only. Finding a quiet and peaceful place to stay in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland is, we hope, made easier by the existence of this catalogue. It's far more accurate than a travel website's search facility.
How do I add an adults-only hotel to this list?
If you are a hotel or B&B proprietor and would like to have your place added to the list please contact us and we will add you. Free: no charge, no commission. Similarly, if you're someone who has stayed somewhere that's exclusively for grown-ups and would like it added to the list, please let us know. If you find a hotel via this site perhaps you would be kind enough to tell the hotel.
Have a nice stay.
So whether it's a base for some vigorous walking in the Lakes, or a cosy hotel for a romantic weekend or just an ordinary every-day hotel for your seaside stay where you can be sure your visit won't be spoiled by screeching kids, we hope this list of hotels and B&Bs in the UK that are for adults helps you find what you're looking for. We hope you enjoy your well-earned, calm, peaceful, relaxing and tranquil hotel stay.
